The month of April was full of surprises! The biggest surprise was that it was almost my highest month ever for making money from home. In the month of April I brought in $1,732. That’s over halfway to my goal of making $3,000 per month. It’s also close to a $500 increase from last month!
In April I also completed my first financial planning course. The exam was two weeks ago and I just got my marks back. The big surprise was that I got an A+ in the course.
It’s been intense. Having a small child, a full time job, my website and taking a college course has been a crazy amount of work. Hopefully it will all pay off in the end. The dream is to eventually quit my day job and work from home full time. Getting a financial planning certificate is one part of that plan.
Check out these links for some of my past income updates…
- November 2014: $1,539
- December 2014: $1,504
- January 2015: $1,662
- February 2015: $1,126
- March 2015: $1,257

My side income has been pretty steady for the past few months. Always above $1,000/month. But I just can’t seem to break that $2,000 mark. The closest I’ve come is $1,878 back in October 2014.
To drive more traffic to the site I’ve been working on another large resource. The goal is to get this new page to “rank” on googles search results. Hopefully the increased search traffic will drive more ad and affiliate revenue.
It’s been well over a year of blogging and I’m still amazed at how easy it was/is to build the website and produce some side income. Although my first attempts at making money online failed it only took a few tries to figure it out.
The best part is that through cheap shared hosting plans my month to month costs are super low. So there’s little risk and the potential for a huge reward!
Here’s how I made $1,732 in April…
My April Update: $1,732
There are a few different ways that I’m making money from home. The biggest one of course being my website. But I also do a few other things like Swagbucks and Clickworker. I’m also actively pursuing a few other opportunities to make money from home. Check out details on each item below.
Once again the website was a huge driver of my side income. Though Adsense, Media.net and affiliate sales from GoDaddy and Amazon my online income was very strong in April. What really drove that little bit of extra income was a few purchases of GoDaddy’s hosting package though my affiliate link.

The website stats weren’t as strong in April. Pages per session were down slightly. This is something I’d like to fix. One project I’ve been working on large resource for making money online. The hope is that this resource will drive even more traffic to the site.
- Sessions: 10,982
- Pageviews: 26,403
- Pages/Session: 2.4
- Bounce Rate: 54%
Swagbucks brought in over $90 this month! Sign up now and get a $5 sign up bonus.
All this money is going to go towards Christmas gifts. It’s super easy to get all your Christmas gifts for free using Swagbucks. You can easily earn about $500-$1,000 per year in gift cards. Use these gift cards as stocking stuffers, gifts or use them to purchase gifts on Amazon etc.
This month I finished my first financial planning course!!! It was a ton of work. I haven’t been in school for close to ten years. So going to class again has been quite the experience.
This course focused on the basics of financial planning. Things like budgeting, interest, basic investing, mortgages, cash flow, goal setting, insurance, retirement planning etc. All good stuff to know and essentials for any financial planner.
There were two midterms, a group project and a final exam. The midterms went well but I got a few easy questions wrong. The group project was easy, building a financial plan for a fictional person, we got 10/10. The final exam was difficult but it went well. In the end I got an A+ in the course. An awesome start. I’m very pleased.
The idea is to complete 5 more courses and get a certificate in financial planning and perhaps start my own financial planning business in the future.
My carpentry projects have still been stalled for the last few months.
Although I did build some small cedar planters. These planters are going to hang on a sunny fence row and grow some salad greens. They’ll be the “cut and come again” kind so we’ll hopefully have some fresh salad all summer long. Once they’re up and the salad starts growing I’ll add some pictures 🙂
The goal is still to complete a few carpentry projects in May & June to sell in a local craft fair. This should make me $500-$1,000 at some point in the future.
Making Money From Home:
Have you been trying to make money from home? How has it been going? Working from home takes extra focus and energy especially when it’s on top of a current job. But anyone can do it and I would encourage everyone to give it a shot. It doesn’t have to be a website. It could be anything to make money on the side.
