Making Money From Home: July Update $1,958

Making Money From Home - July Update $1,958

Wow!!! Another record month here at In total $1,948 in side income this month! Not bad for something I do in my spare time (although it does take up a decent chunk of that spare time). Despite the fact that traffic was down from the previous month my income still increased. This is mainly thanks to some better converting traffic.

Affiliate sales and Adsense are my main income drivers. I also have a couple of other niche sites that produce some small income but is currently the largest of my sites. I do hope to grow those other sites over time the same way I have with This will help diversify my income slightly.

Its easy to start a blog. Check out the start a blog page. This guide will show you how to start a blog in just minutes using Host GatorBlueHost or GoDaddy. I use BlueHost personally.

In addition to my websites I’m also taking a Financial Planning certificate at a local college (who says you’re too old to go back to school?).

My course is done for the summer. The final exam was last weekend any I have a good feeling about it. The last two exams went well with 80% on the first and 88% (!!!) on the second. There were also some small assignments worth 5% of the final grade. Wouldn’t you know I actually forgot about one of the assignments and lost 2% of my final grade because of it. Whooooops.

Going back to school after such a long period wasn’t as difficult as I thought it might be. In fact I find school much easier now than in the past. If you’re considering going back to school, or just going for the first time, then I say go for it! It’s honestly never too late to build your skill set.

My July Update: $1,958

As mention above, this was a record month for The site brought in more money than last month but with less page views. This is thanks to some better converting traffic and the fact that I continue to integrate affiliate products in a natural way.

Affiliate sales seem to be the way to go. There are thousands of products & companies with affiliate programs. If you look I’m sure you can find a product or service that would fit well with your site. The hard thing is to make sure you don’t over do it with affiliate links. Having too many affiliate links is a negative signal for Google.

July Stats:

Pages per session was way up in July vs the previous month. Not quite back to their all time high but it’s improving. The bounce rate also decreased to 57%. In the past the bounce rate has been as low as 52% so this is still the number I’m trying to beat.

  • Sessions: 16,251
  • Pageviews: 36,488
  • Pages/Session: 2.3
  • Bounce Rate: 57%

Only about $80 came from Swagbucks this month (I’ve been slacking). All this money will go towards Christmas gifts this year. Using Swagbucks to pay for your Christmas gifts is a fun way to use your rewards. It’s also a great way to get your Christmas gifts for free and avoid the huge credit card bill. But you have to start early. Earning a little bit each month is much easier than trying to earn a whole bunch in just a few days.

Small Business:

Just recently I finished reading the book “The $100 Startup” and it’s further inspired me to start my own business. It’s a great book for anyone who’s looking to earn more money.

The book focuses on entrepreneurs that started businesses on the cheap, sometimes by accident, and were able to produce over $50,000 in income per year. There are all sorts of great examples in this book. There are also a ton of useful exercises to help flush out your business idea.

Right now I’m thinking about two businesses…

One business would be related to the Financial Planning certificate I’m currently enrolled in. This certificate should be done in the next 8 months or so. After this I’d like to put that knowledge to work. This could be either a traditional financial planning role or something different like an online e-resource or maybe even virtual planning.

My second business idea would be another niche site. This site wouldn’t rely on ad’s to earn an income but would actually sell a product. This product would be something that I can own. The trouble with starting a niche site like this is that it adds one more level of complexity because now I need to develop an awesome product that people actually want & need.

More to come on these two ideas in the future as I apply some of the things I learned in The $100 Startup.

Making Money From Home:

This was a great month for making money from home. A new record at $1,958. I hope next month I can break the $2,000 level! This will be my goal for month of August. Wish me luck!
